Discuss the workplace challenge
Describe a time when a technically accurate message still failed to create shared understanding. Identify the audience signal you would attend to now and propose one clarifying question.
A busy healthcare team needs a message that is clear, respectful, and useful before the next shift begins.
Build a post that gives classmates something to work with
- Locate the moment: Describe the Nia/Mr. Alvarez situation or a comparable workplace interaction where an accurate message missed the audience's actual need.
- Separate evidence from interpretation: Name one observable signal and one interpretation someone might make. Explain why the distinction matters.
- Make the next move: Write one clarifying question and one paraphrase that could create shared meaning before the professional gives an answer.
- Invite a decision: End with a question that asks classmates to compare the likely audience response or improve your proposed next move.
Your reply to a classmate
Identify one strength in the classmate's observation, then extend or respectfully revise the proposed clarifying question. Explain what new evidence the question could reveal.
Useful stem: “Your observation shows ____. I would add/adjust the question to ____ because it could reveal ____.”
Aim for conversation, not completion
A strong post gives classmates a real communication choice to examine. Avoid a definition-only response or an “I agree” reply without a reason.
